Also enjoy summer opera, ballet, traditional Croatian open air concerts and theater productions in major churches and public squares all around Croatia.

Festivals in Zagreb

The Zagreb summer festival is one of the best that Croatia has to offer. It’s held in July and August in the Croatian capital city, and you can’t turn your head without seeing a music concert or live theater performance at the festival. Open public squares of Zagreb are magically transformed into open-air stages, along with many of Zagreb’s churches and religious cathedrals, like the Cathedral of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary and the Jesuit Church of St. Catherine, becoming temporary concert venues free to the public during the festival!
While in Zagreb, don’t miss other cultural events like the Zagreb Film Festival in October, the International Folklore Festival in July and the Queer Zagreb FM Festival in April, for the more adventurous traveler to Croatia.

Dubrovnik Summer Festival

Just when you thought the summer couldn’t get livelier in Croatia, there’s the Dubrovnik Summer Festival too! The festival in Southern Dalmatia, Croatia has been thriving since 1950, and kicks off to a great start in July with fireworks in Luza Square. The Croatian celebration lasts for 5 whole weeks, and includes live concerts and Croatian dance performances. The festival concludes in August, and attracts some of the most prestigious artists from Croatia and around the globe, including theater artists performing the likes of Shakespeare and Greek tragedies.

Summer Cultural Festival in Bol

You’ve come this far with your trip in Croatia, so why not live it up at the Summer Cultural Festival in Bol, on Brac Island, Croatia. The Croatian island is best known for windsurfing, but in July and August, the summer festival becomes the star of the island. It’s the most local and intimate festival of them all, and is a great place to celebrate with a bit of peace, quiet, and local color.
