Meals are taken in Croatia in a way similar to the rest of Europe.
There are generally three hearty meals a day, with a late afternoon snack if required.
Some typical dishes that can be expected include various meat and game dishes for dinner.
Specialties from the grill are known as rostilja or raznja. Peceno means roasted and przeno means fried.
On the coast of Croatia you can find some remarkable seafood, and on Christmas in Croatia, the people traditionally have bakalar, or fresh cod.
There’s also a variety of Croatian squid, or Italian calamari, and octopus salad known as salata ob hobotnice.
Various hearty stews include Goulash, or gulas as its known in Croatia. There’s also bean stew known as Grah.
Pasta dishes include Pasticada with Gnocchi, or beef pot roast.
There’s veal soup with smoked meat, Sataras, which are minced and roasted vegetables, and Mlinci, typical Croatian roasted pasta.
Don’t forget the pita bread and Pogaca, or farmer’s bread, and sweet treats like Palacinke with sweet filling and fresh Baklava dripping in sweet honey.
